With the announcement from Toronto Maple Leafs assistant general manager Claude Loiselle that more trades are likely before the Olympic roster freeze, there will definitely be a deep look at rumors this next week.
So far this season, the Leafs have made four trades. First, they acquired Peter Holland from the Anaheim Ducks for Jesse Blacker and a sec0nd-round pick. Then they made the John-Michael Liles for Tim Gleason deal. Those two deals have been followed by two smaller deals in which the focus was on the Toronto Marlies.
The Maple Leafs will have a couple of roster moves to make in the coming weeks. Dave Bolland could return before the Olympic break. David Clarkson‘s return is close. Trevor Smith is farther away after suffering an unrelated injury after his hand injury healed.
With the way the insurance money works during the Winter Olympics, any team that has Olympians that they might want to get rid of will want o do it before the Games in order to save money. The fact that Kulemin, an Olympian for Russia, has been entered into trade talk just a week before the Olympics might not be a coincidence.
The other players are pretty young and would require quite a return for the Leafs. If a deal could be worked out, it would have to be a near-blockbuster.
