Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Rumors: Kadri, Gardiner & Franson All In Trade Talk

You see all those players in Toronto Maple Leafs jerseys in that picture. Well, according to The Fourth Period, all of them may be candidates to be moved.

TFP says that Nazem Kadri, Jake Gardiner and possibly even Carl Gunnarsson are being ‘dangled’ by Dave Nonis. In the next very paragraph, they say that Cody Franson and James Reimer could be traded if the Leafs get the right return.

These five players are all part of a young Leafs core. Gunnarsson is the oldest of the bunch at 27 years of age. Kadri and Gardiner are the youngest at 23. Moving any of those five means the Leafs would have to get a pretty good return even for just one of them.

As for possible deals, TFP mentions that the Leafs and Edmonton Oilers have been scouting each other for a while now. They say that the Oilers covet Gardiner, which would make sense just on their need for defensemen, but even more when you think of the connection between Gardiner and Oilers’ defenseman Justin Schultz. Sam Gagner could be the player the Leafs would be going after in such a deal.

A for more interesting rumor they mention is that the Leafs could be talking to the Winnipeg Jets about Andrew Ladd or Blake Wheeler. They mentioned that the Jets aren’t sellers, so it would have to be a talent-for-talent deal.

No matter who went the other way, if the Leafs were to bring in Ladd, that would bring in more leadership to the team. It would also bring more Stanley Cup Finals experience to the team as Ladd has two Stanley Cup rings.

A quote from Dave Nonis points to the fact that a trade is more likely to happen this season.

“Randy’s job is not in jeopardy.”

He goes on to say that he won’t trade young players for short-term fixes, so if any of these players are moved, it will most likely be part of a blockbuster trade.
