Toronto Maple Leafs Get Blown Out By New York Rangers 7-1

This recap will not be that long. Why? Really, all I need to say is this.

The New York Rangers won. The Toronto Maple Leafs sucked. The end.

That was really the story of the game. There is not much else that needs to be said, but I’ll try to expand on the game as much as I can.

I missed most of the first period and it was already 2-0 Rangers on goals by Carl Hagelin and former Maple Leaf Dominic Moore. I could tell already that this wasn’t going to be an exciting game to watch. Boy, was I right?

The second period was even worse. Benoit Pouliot, Chris Kreider and Moore scored to make it 5-0 Rangers. That was when Leafs coach Randy Carlyle finally gave the hook to Jonathan Bernier and put in James Reimer. Joffrey Lupul got the Leafs on the board with just under two and a half minutes in the second period.

The third period didn’t bring anything good for the Leafs either. It got worse as Brad Richards and Brian Boyle made it 7-1. It would have been 8-1 had a goal not been disallowed late in the game.

What makes it worse for the Leafs is that they lost both David Clarkson and Carl Gunnarsson to injuries. Clarkson had a shot go off his foot and Gunnarson had a puck hit him in the helmet. It is unknown how serious each injury, but lets hope that neither of them are out for an extended period of time.

The Leafs next game is Tuesday against the New York Islanders. Hopefully the Leafs will fare better against the other New York team.
