The Toronto Maple Leafs are in line to have some bad news come their way today as it appears that Joffrey Lupul will be missing a few games.
After his cross-check to the neck of the Detroit Red Wings’ Patrick Eaves during the Winter Classic , Lupul will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety today. Since Lupul is considered a repeat offender, it’s not a question of whether he’ll get suspended, it’s how many game he will get.
Lupul was previously suspended for a shot to the head of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Victor Hedman last season. That got him two games. Now, you have to figure he will get more games than that.
With all of Lupul’s injury troubles, the Leafs are lucky when he is in the lineup for an extended period of time. They can ill afford to miss Lupul because of a bad hit like this. Unfortunately, now the Leafs will have to deal with it.
The Leafs will once again have to go without one of their best players. I guess the good news is that the Leafs will know the exact number of games he’ll be out this time.
