Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Frederik Gauthier Invited To Canadian World Junior Selection Camp

Hockey Canada has announced the roster of players invited to their World Junior selection camp today, and 2013 first-round pick Frederik Gauthier was the only Leafs prospect invited.

Another Leaf who would certainly have garnered interest from Team Canada management is Morgan Rielly, but with the Leafs announcing that Rielly will stay with them during the tournament, Rielly was left off the invitee list.

The team has a younger core than the lockout-improved squad from last year’s tournament. Aaron Ekblad and Sam Reinhart, the two players who will likely fight for number-one draft pick status next June, were also invited. On top of those two, 16-year-old phenom Connor McDavid was also invited.

Only four players will return from last year’s team: forwards Jonathan Druin and Charles Hudon (who made the team but missed the tournament due to injury), defender Griffin Reinhart and goalie Jake Paterson.

A couple notable omissions from the team are Darnell Nurse and Max Domi. Nurse was taken seventh overall by the Edmonton Oilers while Domi went five picks later to the Phoenix Coyotes at 12th overall. Both players are still in junior and were expected by many to make the team.

Here’s the full list of players invited to the camp.
