Josh Leivo demoted to Toronto Marlies

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Leafs have returned winger Josh Leivo to the AHL, according to James Mirtle.

Leivo played six games with the Leafs, registering one goal and one assist. The move is being made because David Clarkson is set to return on Friday, as his 10-game suspension comes off the books. I thought Leivo looked good in his time with the big club; he hit a couple posts and added some skill to the bottom six. Leivo is the final rookie to be sent down, showing the suspension and injury problems are beginning to dissipate. Marlies captain Trevor Smith is still with the team, and will likely be sent down when Frazer McLaren or Nikolai Kulemin make their returns.

The 20-year-old right-winger is the latest reinforcement to join the Marlies, as Carter Ashton and David Broll were sent down from the big club in time to play in Sunday’s game. Leivo has one assist in two games with the Marlies so far this season. The Marlies play host to the Rockford IceHogs (the Chicago Blackhawks AHL affiliate) tonight at the Ricoh Coliseum at 7 p.m. The Marlies will be looking to improve on their 4-1 record on the season.
