Toronto Maple Leafs Finally Figure It Out

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Maple Leafs finally found a way to bounce back. After losing two straight games, the Leafs made sure they didn’t go on a huge losing a skid by winning 4-2 against the red-hot Anaheim Ducks.

After registering only two shots in the first period and falling down 2-0 early in the second, it looked like the Leafs were going to fall back into their old ways. However, then something strange happened, the Leafs woke up.

Jonathan Bernier got back to playing like he was in the first couple of games. Phil Kessel scored a hat trick to break out of his slump. The Leafs only allowed 25 shots, countered by their 23.

With a game against the 4-5 Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday and a returning David Clarkson, the Leafs might be able to keep up the pace they have set to start the season. With a 7-3 record and the Leafs starting to get healthier, the near future at least looks a little brighter.

Its pretty clear that Bernier’s strength on net is when his team has the lead. When they do, he just seems to take his another level. Tonight, he was able to hold the Leafs in the game until they gave him that lead to work with.

With the return of Clarkson, the Leafs will gain a player that has a work ethic that not a lot of NHLer’s have. He has the passion to make sure that the he does not take an off-night. Hopefully, that passion wears off on his teammates.

The Leafs have a real chance to make a big impact of this season if they can continue to play the way like the way they did in tonight’s game. Let’s hope they can, because the sky is the limit for this team.
