The Leafs continued their poor play over the weekend by getting thoroughly manhandled by the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. The result wasn’t unexpected, but man, what a terrible effort by the guys in blue. Things aren’t going to get any easier with the Anaheim Ducks visiting Toronto on Tuesday, then a back-to-back against the Blue Jackets and Penguins on Friday and Saturday. Don’t even get me started on the perils awaiting the Leafs when the calendar flips to November. But, uh, David Clarkson should be back on Friday! Some links for you:

Stanley deserves a statue for his key role in beating the Habs in the 1967 Final. From Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette.

AHL: Carter Ashton answers call for Toronto Marlies

Good on Ashton to turn around and perform well in yesterday’s game after being demoted. He could be on his way back up to the Leafs pretty soon if he keeps it up. From Dhiren Mahiban of The Canadian Press via the Toronto Star.

Crosby, MacKinnon making Cole Harbour proud

Pretty amazing that a town of 25,000 has produced both the best player in the world, and the 2013 first overall draft pick. And they play against each other for the first time tonight. Great piece from Corey Masisak of NHL.com.

Marlies Win 2-1 Over Hamilton

If Morgan Rielly gets sent back to junior (which seems unlikely), I’d imagine the red-hot T.J. Brennan would make an appearance on the Leafs’ blue line. More Marlies coverage from Jeff Veillette of The Leafs Nation.

Leafs Prospect Update

It’s definitely a good time to be a Leafs prospect in the OHL these days. I’m excited to see Matt Finn live in Peterborough on the 30th. From Curt Snoddon of Blue Chip Prospects at Maple Leafs Hot Stove.
