The other blue-and-white team in Toronto gets their season kicked off this Saturday against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Ricoh Coliseum at 3 p.m. It could be a tough year for the Marlies with a lot of youth on the roster, but it should be fun anyway to see how the kids fare. At any rate, tickets at Ricoh won’t cost you your first-born child, so there’s that. As for the big club, they’ll have their first game of the season at the friendly confines of the Air Canada Centre tomorrow when they take on the Kanata Ottawa Senators. Who gets the start in net? Will Carlyle continue to dress a designated face-puncher in his lineup? (Answer: OF COURSE HE WILL!) Those questions and more in today’s BTB:

John-Michael Liles Taking Demotion In Stride

I think he’s still an NHL-level defenseman, and he should be a great veteran presence on the Marlies for the younger players to look up to. From Jeff Veillette of The LeafsNation.

Success this season for the Marlies starts with their blue line

I was really impressed with Stuart Percy and Andrew MacWilliam in the preseason. From Kyle Cicerella.

Siegel: Bernier shines brightly in Maple Leafs debut

I think he deserves the start on Saturday, but James Reimer has been superb (8-1-1, .949 save percentage) against the Senators in his career. From Jonas Siegel of TSN.

Mirtle: Hockey doesn’t need designated fighters

Cc: Randy Carlyle. From James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail.

Dennis Seidenberg And The Boston Bruins Agree To A Four Year Extension

The German defenseman gets a new deal worth $4-million per season. From Andrew Thompson of Causeway Crowd.
