Leafs trim roster, David Clarkson & Phil Kessel face suspensions

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent Kevin Marshall, Stuart Percy and Andrew MacWilliam down to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League this morning.

With the cuts, the Maple Leafs now have a total of 19 forwards, 9 defensemen and 3 goalies in their camp.

Here’s the list of players remaining:

Forwards

James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Phil Kessel, Mason Raymond, Joe Colborne, Colton OrrJoffrey Lupul, David Clarkson, Nazem Kadri, Carter Ashton, Jay McClement, David Broll, Nikolai Kulemin, Dave Bolland, Troy Bodie, Josh Leivo, Jamie Devane, Frazer McLaren and Trevor Smith.

Defenseman

Carl Gunnarsson, T.J. Brennan, Jake Gardiner, Korbinian Holzer, John-Michael Liles, Dion Phaneuf, Paul Ranger, Mark Fraser and Morgan Rielly.

Goaltenders

James Reimer, Jonathan Bernier and Drew MacIntyre.

Notes

- I fully expect Percy and MacWilliam to get some time with the big club later on in the year as the two had very good camps. Both players should get a good amount of ice time with the Marlies.

- David Clarkson will be facing an automatic ten-game suspension for leaving the bench during the team’s line-brawl with the Buffalo Sabres Sunday night at the Air Canada Centre. If Clarkson does indeed receive the ten-game ban, he will be out of the lineup until October 25.

- Phil Kessel could also face suspension for swinging his stick at Sabres enforcer John Scott. If Kessel does receive a suspension, he’ll likely miss a couple games.

When/if the suspensions are officially announced, I will update.
