Fraser, 26, completed his first full season with the Maple Leafs and is now an unrestricted free agent.
In 45 games with the Leafs this season, Fraser had 8 assists, 85 penalty minutes and held an impressive plus-18 rating.
About a week ago, the Leafs submitted a qualifying offer to retain Fraser’s rights as a restricted free agent, but he rejected it as he’s looking for a one-way contract, and not a two-way.
So, by filing for salary arbitration, Fraser’s representatives hope to force the Leafs into negotiating a one-way deal, which Fraser does indeed deserve.
