With all the illegal or so-called illegal hits we see in today’s game, it’s always nice to celebrate a good clean hockey hit. And nothing says old fashion hockey like a solid hip check.

Drew Doughty is one of the best in the game at delivering them, and he caught Patrick Kane with one in the third period of last night’s Game 5 of the Western Conference Final. Kane tried to cut across the ice and Doughty connected with his hip, sending him flying like a helicopter towards the ice.

The hit was textbook on how to play the man and the fact that Kane wasn’t hurt and was able to jump right back up made it even better. He ended up scoring a hat-trick, including the overtime winner to send Chicago to the Cup Finals.
