The Dallas Stars are the latest team to show interest in Toronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins. The Stars are looking for someone to replace Glen Gulutzan who was fired after the team failed to make the playoffs. The Maple Leafs have granted Dallas permission to speak to Eakins.
Eakins has already received an interview from the Vancouver Canucks and has been in contact with the New York Rangers as well. It has also been reported that the Edmonton Oilers have an interest in Eakins, but for an assistant coaching position. Although he may be seeking a head coaching role, working with a young team like the Oilers is exactly what Eakins is suited for.
The Marlies still have Eakins under contract for another two seasons, but he does have a clause in his contract that allows him to pursue National Hockey League opportunities this summer. It looks as though Eakins will most certainly be making the jump to the NHL in the next few weeks and it will then be the Marlies looking for a new coach.
