The Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off a very impressive win on Friday night as they avoided elimination at the hands of the Boston Bruins, and the greatest player to ever play took notice. Wayne Gretzky revealed in an interview with ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun that he has been impressed with the young squad.
Gretzky stated that Toronto is playing with great emotion right now and head coach Randy Carlyle deserves much of the credit for the Leafs’ turnaround. He went on to say that they now have a confidence in their bench boss because they know that his methods have worked in the past. Gretzky also touched on the play of James Reimer and said he has answered any questions the Leafs had with their goaltending in a strong way.
Gretzky is from Brantford, Ontario and grew up watching the Maple Leafs as a youngster. The fact that someone with the skill and respect that The Great One possesses is complimenting the squad, should be a nice boost for the team and organization as a whole.
