Although it’s not quite the Stanley Cup, former Toronto Maple Leaf Bates Battaglia captured an impressive victory last night. Battaglia and his brother Anthony won The Amazing Race and took home $1M for their troubles. If you are not familiar with the competition, The Amazing Race is a reality show that pits teams of two people in a race around the world against each other. This was The Amazing Race’s 22nd season.
Battaglia was in the Leafs’ organization from 2005-06 to 2008-09 and bounced back and forth between the big club and the Toronto Marlies. He was a decent third or fourth line player and actually posted a 31 point campaign with the Leafs in 2006-07. In total Battaglia recorded 198 career NHL points in 580 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals and Maple Leafs.
The team dubbed the “Hockey Brothers” crossed the finish line in Washington D.C. in first place and were followed by a group called the “Newlyweds” who grabbed second spot, and then the “Roller Derby Moms” who placed third.
