With the Toronto Maple Leafs clinching their first playoff appearance in over 3,000 days, it’s easy to forget that the Toronto Marlies are preparing to start another post-season run of their own. The Marlies made it all the way to the finals last season before eventually losing to the Norfolk Admirals.

Toronto captured its second straight North division title in 2012-13 thanks to beating the Rochester Americans on Friday by a score of 4-1. Toronto will actually meet Rochester in the opening round of this year’s Calder Cup playoffs. The Marlies swept the Americans in the first round of the 2011-12 playoffs.

Toronto will host the first two games of the series this Saturday (April 27th) and Sunday (April 28th) at 3pm. If you’re interested in seeing some live Toronto playoff hockey, the advantage of attending a Marlies game is the fact that you don’t need to have won the lottery in the past six months to afford tickets.

Now I feel like there needs to be a movie made called “3,000 Days” chronicling the time between Leafs’ playoff appearances. Like Bad News Bears meets the Mighty Ducks.
