Leafs Get Second Chance To Clinch Tonight Against Islanders

The Toronto Maple Leafs will get a second opportunity to clinch a playoff spot tonight when they host the New York Islanders. A victory by the Leafs and a regulation loss by the Winnipeg Jets would send Toronto to the post-season.

James Reimer will return between the pipes tonight after being given the night off on Tuesday in Washington. Additionally, healthy scratches Clarke MacArthur and Matt Frattin will get an opportunity to check back into the line-up and see if they can end lengthy scoring droughts. They skated on a line with Mikhail Grabovski at the morning skate and it looks like Frazer McLaren, Ryan Hamilton, and Joe Colborne will not dress tonight.

Speaking of droughts, Nazem Kadri has not scored in seven games. The loss of Joffrey Lupul seemed to have taken its toll, but with the Leafs winger returning on Tuesday, it’s only a matter of time before Kadri finds the score sheet once again.

On the injury front it looks like Carl Gunnarsson will miss another game because of a lower-body injury. The good news is he did skate today and the Leafs are targeting Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators for a return.
