Joffrey Lupul is inching closer to a return and that could come as soon as tonight when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the New Jersey Devils. Lupul has been cleared for contact and hasn’t reported feeling any concussion symptoms since last Tuesday. He has now skated for four straight days. Lupul hasn’t played since April 4thafter being on the receiving end of a hit from the Philadelphia Flyers Adam Hall and Jay Rosehill.

If Lupul does return to the ice tonight, it will give the Leafs even more of a boost as they continue to build towards clinching a playoff spot. Toronto has picked up points in 12 of their last 13 games and currently sits fifth in the Eastern Conference. James Reimer was not on the ice this morning so it’s a good indication that he will make his ninth straight start tonight.

The Devils meanwhile have been slumping and are all but out of the playoff race after losing nine straight contests. They have really struggled without Ilya Kovalchuk who has been out of action since the start of this losing streak with a sprained shoulder.
