Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel was named the league’s Second Star for last week. Kessel led the NHL by scoring five times and was tied for the league lead in points with seven.
Kessel got the week started by recording two goals and an assist last Monday against the Rangers. He also had the game winner in the 4-3 victory over New York. Then, in the second game of a home-and-home between the two teams on April 10th, Kessel scored twice more, but the Leafs fell 3-2 in a shootout. Finally on Saturday, he picked up a goal and an assist to help Toronto beat the rival Montreal Canadiens 5-1. Kessel has now taken over the team lead in points with 42 and has 13 multi-point games on the year.
Sergei Bobrovsky continued his strong play for the Columbus Blue Jackets and was named First Star by going 3-0-0 with a 0.97 goals against average and a .971 save percentage last week. He also added a shutout and stopped 100 of 103 shots he faced.
The Third Star went to Dallas goalie Richard Bachman who was also 3-0-0 with a 1.08 GAA and a .963 SP. Bachman has done a nice job filling in for the injured Kari Lehtonen and has helped the Stars get back into the playoff race.
