Mikhail Grabovski was not on the ice today with his Toronto Maple Leaf team-mates as he stayed behind in New York to see some specialists about an intestinal problem. The 29-year-old has been dealing with issues in that area for two years and recently began losing weight.
The Leafs played the Rangers on Wednesday and the decision was made to keep Grabovski behind and receive testing both Thursday and Friday due to the strong medical resources there. Head coach Randy Carlyle indicated that Grabovski has been dealing with lengthy heartburn and other pain over the last two years.
Grabovski has been struggling as of late and has slid down the depth to even as low as the fourth line recently. He played just 11 minutes against New York on Wednesday. As the team’s highest paid forward Grabovski’s decline in play is troubling, but Carlyle couldn’t confirm if his health issues were contributing to it. The Leaf coach also was unsure if he will be available for tomorrow night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
