Newly acquired defenseman Ryan O’Byrne will make his debut tonight for the Toronto Maple Leafs when they host the New York Rangers. Randy Carlyle made the announcement at the morning skate. O’Byrne was picked up from the Colorado Avalanche at the trade deadline and will add some important depth as the team marches towards the playoffs. During his time in Colorado he was often paired with John-Michael Liles, but it remains to be seen just how Carlyle plans to use him this evening. O’Byrne also has some valuable playoff experience during a previous stint with the Montreal Canadiens.
Other news from this morning’s skate saw James Reimer not in attendance, which is a good indication he will get the start tonight. Reimer was solid in the victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday and has just one regulation loss in his last nine starts.
Joffrey Lupul, however, was on the ice today, but only for about 10 minutes. Lupul is suffering from an upper-body injury after taking a big hit against the Philadelphia Flyers last Thursday. He is officially listed as day-to-day.
