The Toronto Maple Leafs have picked up defenseman Ryan O’Byrne from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for 2013 fourth round pick. O’Byrne has one goal and three assists to go along with 54 penalty minutes with the Avalanche this season.
O’Byrne will add some depth to the Maple Leaf blueline and can help out with the penalty kill. He is also a decent shot blocker.
The 28-year-old was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens back in 2003 and is a six-year veteran.
With all the inexperienced defensemen seeing heavy minutes for the Leafs, adding O’Byrne for just a fourth round pick is a nice insurance policy as the team pushes towards the playoffs.
