John-Michael Liles will not make the trip to Boston to take on the Bruins Monday night. The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman suffered a sprained ankle on Saturday in the first game of the home-and-home against the Bruins.
Liles collided with Boston forward Daniel Paille during the second period and both players slid into the boards awkwardly. Liles was able to skate off the ice, but was helped to the locker room by the trainer and did not return. Thankfully for the Leafs it was just a sprain because it looked to be a lot worse at the time.
Liles was scratched for 12 straight games at one point this season, and although he hasn’t recorded a point since his return to the line-up, he has been paired with Jake Gardiner and the two have looked fairly comfortable together.
With Liles out for the time being, there is a good chance Mike Kostka could return to the line-up tomorrow night. Nevertheless, the Leafs have called up Jesse Blacker just in case. Blacker has three goals and seven assists an 53 games with the Toronto Marlies this season.
