Joffrey Lupul will make his return to the Toronto Maple Leafs line-up Saturday night against the Winnipeg Jets. Lupul has missed the last 25 games due to a broken forearm he suffered after being hit by a point shot from Dion Phaneuf in a game against Pittsburgh back in January.
Lupul said the injury isn’t quite 100% just yet, but he has been practicing all week and the doctor’s believe it is strong enough to allow him to play. His return couldn’t come at a better time for the Leafs as they have lost four straight games. Lupul could bring an offensive spark to a squad that has found the back of the net just three times in their past two contests.
Although he had great chemistry with Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak last season, don’t expect Lupul to start with that group tomorrow night. He skated on a line with Nazem Kadri and Nikolai Kulemin Friday during practice, so that is likely where Lupul will fit in for now. James van Riemsdyk has played great all season and removing him from that top line wouldn’t make sense.
