The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Mike Brown on injured reserve. Brown hurt his shoulder in Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres. Brown has been scoreless in five games with the Leafs this season and has only recorded one shot on goal. However, Brown is typically a source of energy for the team on the fourth line and leads the Leafs in PIM with 29.
To take Brown’s place the Leafs have recalled Toronto Marlies captain Ryan Hamilton. The rugged forward is the Marlies all-time leading goal scorer, and so far in 2012-13 he has impressed by posting 18 goals and 27 points in 38 games. Hamilton is fresh off of receiving AHL All-Star game MVP honours this weekend after recording a hat trick, including scoring the game winning goal for the Western Conference with just 11 seconds left in regulation. Hamilton also played in two games last year for the Leafs and picked up an assist.
Toronto also made another roster move today when they picked up forward Frazer McLaren off waivers from the San Jose Sharks. McLaren, who played 26 games for the Worcester Sharks of the AHL this year, is a big body at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds. He skated in just one game with San Jose in 2013, but had an assist and 87 PIM with Worcester earlier this season.
