Clarke MacArthur missed the Toronto Maple Leafs practice on Monday and he is unlikely to be in the line-up on Tuesday when the team visits the Buffalo Sabres. MacArthur injured his pinky finger in the Leafs 5-2 loss against the New York Rangers on Saturday. He was slashed during the contest and suffered a lacerated finger, as well as a lost fingernail.
MacArthur has a goal and two assists so far in 2013, so his offense will be missed by the Leafs as they attempt to put an end to a two-game losing streak. Buffalo has already defeated Toronto 2-1 this season in a game where goalie Ryan Miller was the difference.
James van Riemsdyk skated with Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak at practice on Monday, so that is a good indication the trio will be together for tomorrow. JVR has impressed so far this season with three goals, and perhaps he may even be able to give Kessel a shot in the arm offensively. Kessel is still searching for his first goal of the campaign, and having a big player like van Riemsdyk taking up real estate in front could free up some room for the speedy American.
In other Leaf news, the team has recalled Jake Gardiner from the Toronto Marlies. No word on if this is permanent thing, or just to give Gardiner some practice time while the AHL is on all-star break.
