Toronto Maple Leafs 40:1 To Win Stanley Cup

The NHL and NHLPA announced a tentative agreement on a CBA just a few hours ago and already off-shore sports books and Las Vegas casinos are re-posting their Stanley Cup futures.

The folks at bet365 have the Toronto Maple Leafs currently posted at 40:1 to win the Stanley Cup.  The Leafs are surround by a whole pile of teams at 40:1 including the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are the odds on favorite to win the Stanley Cup at 6:1, while the Vancouver Canucks and the defending Stanley Cup champion, LA Kings, have the best odds of Western Conference teams at 10:1.

Seeing the Penguins that high isn’t a surprise, but I am bit skeptical of the Canucks.  Vancouver had only one player (Jannik Hansen) playing in Europe during the lockout and only a couple of players in the AHL that are expected to be with the big club for the start of the season.  They had by far the fewest players of any team that were active during the lockout. I expect a slow start from them and in a shortened season that can be trouble.

Another offshore book, Bodog, has some different odds for their Stanley Cup futures.  They have the Maple Leafs at 30:1  and the favorite Penguins at 8:1.  So if you are inclined to place a wager on this type of thing then do your research and shop around for the best odds.
