I’m not entirely sure how this YouTube video of NHL 94 with 2012 rosters was created, but it would seem to me that kind of genius should be studied somewhere. This clip shows the current Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the current Detroit Red Wings, only in 94 mode. All the sights and sounds of the classic game are there.
The Wings took it 3-0 in a low scoring affair. Come to think of it, getting a shutout is almost unheard of in NHL 94. Back in the day if you could hold your opponent to less than double digits you were probably in good shape.
If you can get past the plethora of offsides, look closely and you will notice other updated changes to reflect the current game in 2012. And no I’m not talking about little animated Bettman’s and Fehr’s talking in board rooms.
The first thing that jumps out is Jim Hughson is now doing the introductions instead of the legendary Ron Barr. You may also notice the trapezoid and goal crease have been updated as well. Not to mention that the opening goal by Pavel Datsyuk at the 5:55 mark came after some sloppy Leaf defending. They thought of everything.
Since there is no hockey at the moment why not play the entire season through NHL 94? Or better yet, have Bettman and Fehr play non-stop until they come to an agreement.
