Mats Sundin may have had over 500 goals and 1,300 points, but the big Swede was more than just a talented hockey player. He also took part in several commercials and showed great range as an actor. Well, the first part of that sentence is accurate at least. Nevertheless, digging through the archives to find these hilarious commercials was an unexpected treat. And the answer to your question is, yes I’m running out of things to write about because of the lockout.
Until I stumbled upon this video, I had completely forgotten about tormented French Canadian goaltender turned landscaper and cabbie, Francois Dupuy. Come to think of it, having a former NHL goaltender taking you home in a cab after a night out would be really cool. Most drivers really like to talk, and having him regale you with hockey stories would be pretty sweet. Even if he does have a weak stick hand.
The other interesting commercial shown here is the one with Wayne Gretzky. It’s funny, before seeing this I didn’t even realize Paulina Gretzky’s dad played hockey. In all seriousness though, getting a chance to star in a commercial with Gretzky is not something many people can say they have done. Sundin must have been pretty honoured, even if he sounded more interested in winning a Big Mac than going shot for shot with The Great One.
