Dallas Eakins sure isn’t shy about sharing his feelings is he? A day after voicing his concerns about Ben Scrivens, the Toronto Marlies head coach was critical of both Nazem Kadri and Joe Colborne, and thus is scratched them for tonight’s game against the Texas Stars.
Kadri and Colborne combined for a minus-3 rating on Thursday night. Neither player has scored so far this season, and the two have just seven assists between them in nine games. Mark Fraser was also listed as a scratch for tonight. The usual reliable blueliner nearly cost the Marlies a victory yesterday with a foolish roughing penalty late in the game.
Simon Gysbers should slide back into the lineup for Fraser. Meanwhile, Eakins can draw on forwards Brad Ross, Kenny Ryan, or Jerry D’Amigo to step in for Kadri and Colborne. Matt Frattin remains out while recovering from knee surgery.
For the last few years Kadri has been polarizing because of his tremendous skill, yet struggles with consistency. The question has always been when will he be mature enough to play in the NHL full-time, but now if he is getting scratched at the AHL level, that may bring up a whole new set of issues for Leafs brass.
