Sundin's Number To Be Retired, Kessel Honored

Just a couple of quick announcements here. It was released over the weekend that Mats Sundin, who was coincidentally in the stands during the Leafs’ most recent win over Pittsburgh, will join the ranks of those other great Leafs that have had their numbers retired. The number 13 will be raised to the rafters on February 11th, with none other than the hated Habs in town to watch. Here’s my favorite Sundin goal:

On a lesser note, but of more importance to the current Leafs, Phil Kessel was given player of the month honors today, after a dazzling October saw him score 10 goals and 18 points in just 11 games. He leads all NHL scorers in both categories, and has carried a blistering 1.64 points per game pace into November. God help the rest of the league if he can keep this up. On second thought, forget that, it’s about time we had a truly dominant player again.
