Well, for the first time in over a week, I’ve got two seconds to spend some talking about our beloved Leafs. A college graduation in Jersey plus a weekend spent making up for holiday time missed from work all coincided with the start of beer league softball season, so I’ve had absolutely no time. Not that there was tons of Leafs news to report, but there has been lots going on around the league.
The FanSided Mock Draft has continued to snake its way throughout the network, and some talented youngsters have come off the board. When we last checked, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had fallen to the Florida Panthers. Since then, here’s the list of players that have been selected (thanks again to Jared Crozier from Too Many Men on the Site/SenShot):
|4||NEW JERSEY||Jonathan Huberdeau|
|5||NY ISLANDERS||Sean Couturier|
|9||BOSTON (FR TOR)||Duncan Siemens|
Don’t worry, there will still be plenty of good names on the board by the time it’s Editor-in-Leaf’s turn at the cyber-podium, so we’ll be sure to pick someone good.
In other news, I have to say that I’m very happy with the growing possibility that Winnipeg might once again be getting a hockey team. I know the fans in Atlanta won’t be, but I’ve always been a proponent of returning hockey to Canada, and I’d sure as hell rather it be Winnipeg than Quebec City.
We’ll be back tomorrow with more looks at some of the prospects available to the Leafs, as well as an update later in the week on some of the upcoming contract negotiations that Brian Burke will be conducting with some of Toronto’s restricted free agents. Go Leafs!
