Tonight’s ridiculously embarrassing loss at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers had the same feel to it as the loss that triggered Burke’s blockbuster deal that sent half the Leafs’ forwards to Calgary last year. While the ACC erupted into chants of “Fire Wilson” amidst a chorus of boos in the closing minutes, I don’t know that it would be the wisest move. That doesn’t mean I don’t think it should happen, though.
Wilson should not be held up as the scapegoat for this team’s struggles, but there’s a very good chance that he will be. Down Goes Brown had a very insightful statement earlier in the night on Twitter: “Bright side: At least tonight will end all the speculation about Wilson getting fired this year. He’s either gone or completely bulletproof.”
I’m too mad to put together any more coherent thoughts, but I’ll have more on this debacle tomorrow morning. By then, there might be plenty of news to report on anyways.
